Healthscope is seeking an experienced full time Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Coordinator for Independence Services which will provide support to our Disability staff across multiple sites. The coordinator will be responsible for providing proactive advice and assistance in application and maintenance of workplace health and safety and injury prevention and management. 


As the Workplace Health & Safety your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead safety leadership and culture. Provide ongoing leadership and support to management and staff in line with Healthscope WHS Strategy and programs. Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to design, deliver and achieve quality return to work and rehabilitation outcomes for injured employees.
  • Providing health and safety advice to healthcare staff including ensuring the interpretation of the policies and standards are consistent.
  • Implementing programs and initiatives to drive improvements in Healthscope’s health and safety practices and performance.
  • Promote an injury management approach at Healthscope that supports injured employees remaining at work during their recovery to facilitate positive rehabilitation outcomes.
  • Develop, implement and monitor return to work programs with key stakeholders. Undertake effective case management for all injury management cases including complex and psychological claims.
  • Facilitate Healthscope WHS training including orientation, occupational violence (train the trainer), manual handling, injury management and wellbeing.
  • Lead / support manual handling incident prevention programs and ongoing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Reviewing and monitoring health and safety risk management strategies to ensure continuous improvement in Healthscope’s operations.
  • Actively participate and contribute to advisory committees to develop health and safety improvements.
  • Facilitating & or participating in Risk Assessments as Facilitator or SME’s in line with established processes.
  • Assisting to develop strategies to improve health and safety performance.
  • Support Managers in incident, near miss and hazard reporting and investigations.
  • Lead complex and comprehensive investigations as per Healthscope Investigation policy and procedures.
  • Developing Health & Safety Representative’s skills and assist relevant Workplace Health & Safety Representatives and Employee Involvement Groups/Staff Consultative Committees.
  • Performing audits and inspections for the health and safety audit program
  • Analysing, evaluating and reporting on all aspects of health and safety.
  • Providing appropriate emergency management advice (and the Fire Safety Adviser/Officer function)
  • Provide support to the injury management functions
  • Support employee wellbeing programs.
  • Support pre-employment health screening processes.
  • Support Infection control and prevention pratices


Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant qualifications in WHS or related discipline
  • Significant experience working in Occupational Health & Safety-in disability or relevant health field
  • Proven success in leading and influencing a positive WHS culture
  • Demonstrated success in implementing Risk Management Practices
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to engage with a range of key stakeholders
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills
