Opening 30 October 2018, Northern Beaches Hospital will be a fully licensed private hospital, providing care to public and private patients from an outstanding facility with a large range of quality services provided by exceptional nurses, doctors and staff. 


As a Bookings Officer, you will report to the Bookings & Admission Centre Manager and your responsibilities will include:

  • Booking of elective and emergency surgical, medical and maternity patients into the hospital l
  • Pro-actively managing and resolving billing enquires from patients, health funds, medical officers and internal customers in a professional and efficient manner
  • work closely with Senior Medical Officers, their consulting rooms/practice managers and external referral organisations
  • Working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team comprising Clinical Coordinator, After Hours Nurse Managers, Patient Access and Services Coordinator, Nurse Unit Managers, Interventional Suite and the Pre Admission Clinic and administrative staff.

Bookings & Admission Centre staff are often the first point of contact for many patients & their focus is excellent customer service at all times. The Centre is responsible for switchboard; managing patient bookings; facilitating the pre-admission assessment process; managing patient admission lists, admitting & discharging patients; liaising with health funds & undertaking health fund checks; collection of private patient excesses & any other financial transactions prior to patient admission; managing public waiting lists; and liaising with Senior Medical Practitioners & their Practice Managers regarding bookings.


Shifts will be available across the Bookings & Admission Centre operating hours of 06:00 to 21:00hrs 7 days a week.


You will bring to our high-performing team:

  • Previous experience private hospital administrative experience in a patient booking environment
  • Certificate in Medical Terminology
  • Knowledge of private health fund, Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), workers compensation and third party contracts, business rules and claiming processes
  • Understanding of  health fund, contract tables / member eligibility 
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on completing high quality work
  • An ability to work autonomously as well as in a team environment
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with ability to meet deadlines
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced computer skills, including knowledge of of Patient Management System i.e. WebPAS (or similar) and Microsoft Office (Excel)
