Northern Beaches Hospital provides world-class, Level 5 delineation services for both public and private patients. The hospital features 486 beds, 50-bed Emergency Department, 20-bed general and cardiothoracic ICU, 14 fully equipped theatres, including hybrid theatres, two cardiac catheter labs and four procedure rooms and a state of the art education and interactive SIM centre.

About the General Surgery Department
The Department of General Surgery at Northern Beaches Hospital comprises 20 surgeons specialisng in Upper GI Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Breast Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Paediatric Surgery and General Surgery. A Postgraduate Fellow, working in conjunction with the Macquarie University Northern Beaches Clinical School, supervises the clinical and operational activities of the Department.
The Department is managed in 4 teams, each lead by a RACS SET General Surgery trainee. The Unaccredited Trainee – General Surgery is attached to the Upper GI team and works collaboratively with the Upper GIT SET to deliver the duties and responsibilities of the team. This includes liaising with the Emergency Department for the morning handover, receiving consults and emergency referrals and attending elective and emergency lists. Additionally, the Unaccredited Trainee – General Surgery provides on-call services regularly on weekdays (1:4) with a rostered evening shift which includes overnight on-call via call-backs when required. Contributions to the weekend roster are also included. Opportunities exist to participate in extra on- call shifts, private assisting and VMO consulting sessions in the NBH private suites.
This role is tailored towards a PGY 3+ with a keen interest in surgery. It provides excellent theatre exposure, on-call experience and allows candidates a supportive environment in which to progress their surgical career and prepare for applications to more sub-specialised training programmes in the following years.
Your Role
The General Surgery - Unaccredited Trainee provides clinical assessments, management advice, care of emergency admissions and works with inpatients as required and directed; performing any necessary operative procedures required for the care and treatment of such patients and the arrangement of patient admission and discharge processes. You will attend and assess patients in the Emergency Department and also provide operative care / assistance on patients in theatres during rostered hours and while on call.

Your Capabilities
To be successful in this role you will meet the following Selection Criteria:
- Hold a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and be registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner for a minimum of two years with progress towards career goals in Surgery
- Demonstrated clinical competency and an ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management and evidence of sound working knowledge of legal and ethical obligations governing medical practice
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, time management and problem solving skills in the clinical setting as part of a multidisciplinary team

If you are successful in the role, you will receive a salary relevant to your clinical experience ranging from $111,606 - $140,051 per annum
