At John Fawkner Private Hospital, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) to join our Perioperative Services team.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a passionate perioperative nurse who enjoys balancing hands-on clinical practice with leadership responsibilities. Working alongside the Nurse Unit Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our perioperative department while fostering a culture of safety, teamwork and clinical excellence.

About the Role

As an ANUM, you will provide operational and clinical leadership across the perioperative environment, supporting teams in delivering safe, high-quality care to patients undergoing surgery.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the daily coordination of operating theatre activities and workflows

     

  • Providing clinical leadership and supervision to nursing staff

  • Acting as a role model for evidence-based practice and patient-centred care
  • Supporting staffing, resource allocation and operational efficiency
  • Assisting with performance development, coaching and staff engagement
  • Contributing to quality improvement, accreditation and patient safety initiatives
  • Promoting effective communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams
  • Supporting a positive workplace culture focused on teamwork, accountability and continuous improvement

What You'll Bring

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
  • Recent experience within Perioperative Services
  • Demonstrated experience in Scrub/Scout, Anaesthetics or PACU
  • Strong clinical knowledge and patient assessment skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • A commitment to patient safety, quality improvement and service excellence
  • The ability to mentor, develop and support team members

Essential Requirements

  • Australian working rights

  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Minimum 5 years' perioperative nursing experience
  • Well-developed leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate clinical activities and manage competing priorities
  • Understanding of NSQHS Standards and contemporary perioperative practice
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Postgraduate qualification in Perioperative Nursing or related specialty
  • Experience participating in accreditation activities
  • Knowledge of workforce planning, rostering and clinical governance processes
