Operated by Healthscope, Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) is located in Frenchs Forest in Northern Sydney just 13kms north of the CBD. The hospital is a contemporary 488 bed facility comprising of 60% public and 40% private beds. We provide a wide range of health services to the local community including Surgery, a 50 bed Emergency Department, Intensive Care, Birthing, Paediatrics, Cardiac, Mental Health, Dialysis, Cancer Centre and Outpatients.
NBH has thirteen operating theatres, one hybrid/cardiac catheter theatre, two Catheter Laboratories and four endoscopy procedure rooms, all supported by a critical care unit which includes two intensive care wards.

About the Role

Part time (0.8 FTE) – 3 year contract
The Clinical Nurse Consultant  – McGrath Cancer Care Nurse (MCCN) provides leadership that facilitates the ongoing development of clinical practice that reflects the McGrath Model of Care and cancer services at NBH.  The MCCN is responsible for the supervision and coordination of the patient’s cancer journey for patients receiving treatment at the Northern Beaches Hospital. The aim of this position is to provide safe high quality patient centred care. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Acts as a role model and an expert clinician in services to patients with gastrointestinal cancer.
  • Engaging directly with patients to assist in planning and navigating their investigations and treatments, supportive care and referral to required services.
  • Providing expert clinical advice to patients, family members and other health professionals involved in the care of the patient
  • Supporting the delivery of multidisciplinary care for inpatients and outpatients, including attendance at Multidisciplinary Meetings (MDMs)
  • Coordination of education for patients and carers
  • Leadership role in the development and provision of evidence-based nursing clinical practice

To be successful:

  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse
  • Bachelor of Science (Nursing) or equivalent
  • Post graduate qualification in the speciality field.
  • At least 5 years full time post-registration experience & at least 3 years’ clinical experience in oncology, palliative care or cancer stream specific nursing.

Desirable Qualifications:

  •  Experience working in the private health system

If you are successful in the role, you will receive a salary based on your years of relevant registered nursing experience against the current Healthscope and NSWNMA/ANMF – NSW Nurses and Midwives’ – Enterprise Agreement 2020 - 2024, a salary ranging from $63.71 - $65.02/hour.
