Infection Control Manager

This position is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the Infection Control team to ensure it complements the strategic direction, daily operational processes, budget, business direction and delivery of clinical care of the hospital whilst also maintaining our optimum accreditation status with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS).

This will be achieved by working closely with the Executive Team, Departmental Managers and members of the multidisciplinary team to achieve compliance with identified infection control performance indicators (KPIs)

Responsibilities include:

· Implement, monitor and evaluate the hospital/facility wide Infection Prevention and Control program by assisting Department Managers to facilitate infection prevention and control procedures, practices and standards.

· Report on areas of responsibility against KPIs, undertake specific projects, respond to infectious outbreaks, and maintain information systems on relevant resources.

· Collect and collate identified statistical data and infection prevention and control clinical indicators.

· Support the hospital’s/facility’s optimum accreditation status by working collaboratively with executive, accredited medical staff, departmental managers and staff across the hospital/facility.

· Provide regular feedback to staff, submit relevant reports and manage the development and review of infection prevention and control policies and procedures.

· Chair or coordinates the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and provide leadership in complying with National Safety & Quality Healthcare Standards and leading risk committees/meetings.

· Lead the compliance with legislation and regulations by partnering with Department managers to ensure all staff (Nursing, Allied Health and Medical) practice according to the relevant National Standards and professional code of ethics and conduct, Australian Sterilisation Standards, legislative requirements, Healthscope’s polices and processes, scope of practice, required registration and patient confidentiality and privacy.

· Ensure all relevant Australian Standards and Guidelines are implemented.

· Lead a learning environment by maintaining own professional learning and continuous professional development and by providing staff with education, training and advice on infection prevention and control procedures, practices and standards.

· Act as a valued leader within the hospital/facility by visibly leading a values and safety-led workplace culture.

· Building professional and constructive working relationships with our VMO partners by ensuring VMOs feel part of the hospital/facility and that they adopt the infection prevention and control practices and operating rhythms, to enable high quality patient outcomes.

· Led successful quality/performance/process improvement initiatives to deliver desired outcomes

· Written and prepared reports

· Collected, aggregated and analysed data

· Developed and written policy/s

· Undertaken root cause analysis investigation

· Auditing skills

· Facilitated training

· Provided supervision and preceptorship to staff

· Worked as part of a health care team

· Managed a customer complaint

· Established and managed relationships with key stakeholders, networks and customers (e.g. VMOs, patients, families) from diverse backgrounds

· Participated in accreditation

· Lead a facility through accreditation (desirable)

· Maintained and updated a risk register (desirable)

· Managed a budget (desirable)

· Managed KPI’s (HR, quality and financial) (desirable)

· Worked in a private hospital (desirable)
