Job Title: Injury Management Specialist (12-month maternity leave coverage)

Reports To: Head of Workers Compensation

About the Role:

To partner with and support the Hospital Executive Leadership Team to drive a continuous improvement approach in early intervention and injury management performance. Specifically, through assisting staff injured at work to remain or return to work as soon as safely possible after an injury, minimising claims costs while maintaining a positive safety culture and driving compliance with the requirements of Workers Compensation Laws and application of Healthscope Policies and Procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Enhance personal accountability and build capability amongst managers through influencing and
coaching to establish, implement and monitor effective early intervention, claims and injury
management programs for their staff.
• Drive improved performance in early intervention and injury management through education,
support, mentoring and technical advice to staff, HSRs and managers on injury management roles,
responsibilities, legal obligations, worker’s compensation legislation, processes, concerns and
queries.
• Partner with managers, insurers, early intervention and treatment providers to identify
opportunities and solutions that enhance return to work and rehabilitation outcomes for staff.
• Oversee the execution of site return to work and rehabilitation programs and provide advice and
assistance to managers, staff and treatment providers to develop suitable return to work plans.
• Implement effective case management (including complex and psychological claims) and maintain
records to a high standard in accordance with legislative and Healthscope requirements.
• Liaise with insurers and participate in claim reviews and premium meetings where relevant.
• Participate in and contribute to risk management activities including but not limited to: workplace
assessments to match functional capacity with suitable duties, support of wellbeing programs,
assist with complex ergonomic and work task assessments, provide subject matter expertise
regarding injuries/illness declared in recruitment processes and participate in incident
investigations.
• Monitor and review early intervention and claims performance with Hospital Executive Teams to
identify and act on trends, hotspots and celebrate success.
• Participate and contribute to State and National WHSW forums and networks and advisory
committees to drive improvements to injury management.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner closely with the Injury Management team and Head of Workers Compensation to drive a continuous improvement approach to our workers compensation program.
Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and ensure compliance with internal and external regulations.
Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure that payroll and workers compensation activities adhere to legal and regulatory requirements, and mitigate any associated risks.

Experience for Success

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in injury management, claims, worker’s compensation and early
intervention

Qualifications for Success

Mandatory:

• Diploma in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Psychology or Exercise Physiology or higher (or
evidence working towards same)
• Vehicle drivers license appropriate to the State or Territory
• Return to Work Coordinator training appropriate to the State or Territory

Desirable:

• Certificate IV or higher in Personal Injury Management
• Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment
• Incident and Investigation training, e.g. ICAM or similar
• Membership or affiliation with a personal injury or safety professional association
