The Opportunity
Peninsula Private Hospital is seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Nurse (CN) to join our 23-bed Surgical Ward and support service growth, including preparation for a future five-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU) scheduled to open in late 2026.
This role is ideally suited to a skilled Surgical nurse with leadership experience who is passionate about supporting staff, collaborating with Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs), and delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
The Role
Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, the Clinical Nurse provides clinical leadership and professional support across the Surgical Ward.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the NUM in the operational and clinical leadership of a 23-bed Surgical Ward
- Contributing to planning and readiness activities for the future five-bed HDU
- Delivering and coordinating safe, high-quality, evidence-based nursing care
- Supporting and mentoring nursing staff in line with scope of practice, education and experience
- Providing clinical guidance and escalation support to junior staff
- Collaborating closely with Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) to ensure safe, efficient and coordinated care delivery
- Promoting effective communication within the multidisciplinary team
- Working in partnership with patients and families to support shared decision-making
- Contributing to quality improvement initiatives, accreditation preparation and clinical governance activities
- Supporting effective patient flow and operational efficiency
About You
You are an experienced Registered Nurse with a strong background in Surgical nursing and recent experience in a Clinical Nurse role. You demonstrate sound clinical judgement, leadership capability and a commitment to supporting and developing others. You thrive in a fast-paced acute environment and embrace service growth and change.
Selection Criteria
- Current AHPRA registration
- Minimum Four years Registered Nurse experience, with recent Clinical Nurse experience
- Demonstrated experience in an acute Surgical setting
- Interest in, or exposure to, High Dependency care (desirable)
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant specialty (desirable)
- Demonstrated ability to deliver safe, high-quality patient-centered care
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to support, coach and guide nursing staff
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and clinical excellence
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including VMOs

The hospital is undergoing significant growth, including expansion of perioperative services and the planned opening of a new High Dependency Unit in 2026.
