About the Role: 

Sydney Southwest Private Hospital are seeking a casual wardsperson with excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for delivering high quality patient care to join our Medical/ Surgical Ward.

For over 20 years our dedicated team of healthcare professionals have provided care to patients in greater western Sydney.

Sydney Southwest Private Hospital has 84 patient-beds and provides a large range of medical and acute services including; seven operating theatres, Angiography suite, 10 bed Intensive Care Unit as well as a Day Surgery Unit, Mental Health Unit, Oncology Department as well as pharmacy and radiology services.

In collaboration with a large range of accredited private specialists Sydney Southwest Private are leader in comprehensive range of medical and surgical specialties including, but not limited to, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, ear nose and throat, general and plastic surgery, gastroenterology and endoscopy and gynaecology, bariatric surgery, urology and mental health services

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer/patient service by safely transporting/lifting patients, communicating with clarity and empathy, collecting and delivering specimens, equipment and consumables between departments / wards, and by restocking supplies and consumables.
  • Patient Care Support
  • Assist nursing staff with basic patient care under direction and supervision.
  • Support patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including:
    • Personal hygiene and grooming.
    • Showering and bathing assistance.
    • Toileting and continence care.
    • Dressing and undressing.
    • Assisted feeding where appropriate.
  • Assist patients with mobilising, walking, transferring, and repositioning in bed.
  • Provide support with lifting and manual handling using appropriate equipment and safe work practices.
  • Observe and report changes in patient condition, mobility, or wellbeing to nursing staff.
  • Prioritise patient safety by ensuring patient transportation equipment (including wheelchairs, portable oxygen and suction) is safe and in good working order, and by being an active member of the emergency response team.
  •  Act as a valued member of an interdisciplinary team by promoting a professional and positive team culture and by liaising with the emergency response team, nursing team and other staff to create an experience that makes a difference.
  •  Demonstrate professional practice by working according to Healthscope’s policies and processes, code of conduct and by participating in yearly performance appraisals and mandatory education. Maintain skills and standards of customer service and ensure patient confidentiality and privacy are maintained at all times. 
  • Supports Healthscope’s safety and quality improvement and achievement of accreditation by actively participating in team meetings and quality activities. Ensure compliance with and participation in the National Safety & Quality Healthcare Standards.
