Are you an administrator with a keen eye for detail and strong customer service skills who is looking for a rewarding role? Newcastle Private Hospital are looking for casual Ward Clerks to join us!
This role will see you working across a variety of functions - whilst predominantly undertaking ward clerk duties, you may be assigned to duties in the wider administration setting or within the medical records teams as required.
Shifts are available across a 7-day week with successful candidates needing to have a strong level of availability.

Come and join our expert team of surgeons, specialist doctors, dedicated nurses and allied health professionals at Newcastle Private Hospital. We are a 189 bed, acute, private hospital facility co-located on the John Hunter Campus at Rankin Park. The hospital has 11 theatres including a hybrid theatre and a 15 bed Intensive Care Unit.
We also have a cardiac suite including a cardiac catheter laboratory and a 16 bed Coronary Care Unit. A private maternity suite including 6 birthing suites and a special care baby nursery is available for families in the Newcastle region. Newcastle Private Oncology Centre provides specialty care for individuals and their families/carers undergoing all aspects of cancer treatment and care with both an inpatient unit and day infusion lounge.
As a Ward Clerk your responsibilities may include:
· Greet all customers with care and compassion, so that patients and families feel comfortable during their hospital stay
· Work collaboratively with the wider administration team, ward nursing staff and our Nurse Unit Manager’s
· Preparation of patient files, appointment lists and coordination with other ward clerks to obtain ward patient files
· Medical record compilation, collation and filing
· Providing clerical support to the clinical team as required
· Liaison with allied health, wards persons and other hospital departments when required to facilitate patient treatments, discharges or transfers
· Complete other clerical tasks or roles such as data entry, switchboard, front desk, medical records as directed
Essential Criteria:
· Prior experience in Healthcare, Medical or Dental Administration in a Patient Facing role
· Proven Administration and/or Customer service experience with exceptional attention to detail
· Proven experience handling confidential information or patient files
· Flexible to work a variety of shifts
· Valid Authority to Work in Australia
· NSW Working with Children check for Employment
· High level customer service skillset
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
· Highly developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
· Strong attention to detail
· Experience in MS Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
· Works well independently and within a diverse team
Desirable Criteria
· Knowledge of medical terminology
· Experience with WebPAS or a similar patient administration systemn
· Experience in hospital ward environment will be highly advantageous
· Diploma or TAFE level qualification in Administration, Business Management or related discipline (or working towards same)
