The Role

The After Hours Coordinator is a pivotal member of the health care team providing after hours leadership and management of the nursing team, patient flow and hospital. If you are seeking a new challenge and opportunity to further or build on your leadership skills, this position offers significant opportunity for professional development and career progression.

The After Hours Coordinator you will liaise with the executive on call and report all significant events.  You will be available for flexible shifts for morning, evening, night duty & weekends.

As the After Hours Coordinator your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise safe, quality care that meets current best practice standards
  • Support and liaise with the respective Nurse Unit Manager(s) and Team Leaders of wards and departments
  • Ensure all areas are staffed appropriately and are cost efficient
  • Coordinate patient flow- patient admissions, liaise with VMO’s, emergency dept, paramedics
  • Oversee the safety of all patients and hospital staff
  • Taking lead in emergency codes/situations

Essential Criteria:

  • Registered Nurse with 8+ years’ experience and current AHPRA Registration
  • Recent After Hours Coordinator or Nurse Unit Manager experience, critical care experience an advantage
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • People leadership skills including mentorship and coaching of team members
  • Demonstrated experience with the coordination and allocation of staff
  • Awareness of Health Safety and Wellbeing processes
  • Strong skills in critical thinking and problem solving
  • Thrive in a fast paced, high-pressure environment
  • Be patient centred, a patient advocate and focused on delivery of quality care
  • Be proactive and innovative and across the National Standards for Quality and Safety in Health Care
  • High degree of computer literacy including MS Office

 

Desirable Criteria:

  • Post graduate qualification in Leadership and Management (or willingness to complete)
  • Knowledge of relevant Enterprise Agreements
  • ALS trained with current certificate (or willingness to complete)
  • Experience with computer based programs Dimensions (staff time keeping system) and RiskMan (Incident management system)
