About the role
Newcastle Private Hospital is seeking Assistant’s in Midwifery, with excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for delivering high quality patient care, to join our Maternity Ward on a permanent basis.

Come and join our expert team of surgeons, specialist doctors, dedicated nurses and allied health professionals at Newcastle Private Hospital. We are a 189 bed, acute, private hospital facility co-located on the John Hunter Campus at Rankin Park. The hospital has 11 theatres including a hybrid theatre and a 15 bed Intensive Care Unit.
Our private maternity suite including 6 birthing suites and a freshly renovated special care baby nursery is available for families across the Newcastle region and is renowned for exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist nurses,midwives or hospital staff in carrying out patient care duties
- Work as part of the health care team; practice in accordance with state legislation and within the designated scope of practice
- Answering patient/visitor/customer enquiries
- Provide direct care to women and their families within the AIM scope of practice and level of experience
- Will ensure women are supported through all phases of pregnancy, labour and birth and the postnatal period
Essential Criteria:
- Successful completion of Year 1 of Bachelor of Midwifery
- Current enrolment and ongoing progress in the Bachelor of Midwifery course with a satisfactory academic record maintained.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent ability to plan and prioritise work
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team
- Flexibility to manage shift work (including, day & night shifts) over 7 days
