The Opportunity

We are seeking experienced and passionate Clinical Nurse Specialists to join our highly skilled Acacia (Surgical A Ward) team.

Acacia (Surgical A Ward) provides care across a diverse range of specialties including:

• General Surgery
• Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery
• Colorectal Surgery
• Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery
• Breast Surgery
• Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
• ENT Surgery
• Complex Surgical Services

The ward plays a key role in supporting Norwest Private Hospital's recognised Centre of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, reflecting our commitment to excellence in surgical care, multidisciplinary collaboration and outstanding patient outcomes.

At the heart of Acacia (Surgical A Ward) is a highly skilled and engaged nursing team known for its collaborative approach, commitment to professional development and focus on continually improving patient outcomes and experiences. Supported by an experienced Nurse Unit Manager, Clinical Nurse Educator, Clinical Nurse Specialists and a dedicated Stomal Therapy Clinical Nurse Consultant, the team works together to deliver exceptional care every day.

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will be a valued member of the Acacia (Surgical A Ward) leadership team, working in partnership with the Nurse Unit Manager, Clinical Nurse Educator and fellow senior nurses to drive clinical excellence, patient-centred care and staff development.

As demand for surgical services continues to grow across Sydney's North West, this is an exciting opportunity to further develop your clinical leadership skills and influence the patient journey within a dynamic and innovative surgical environment.

Working alongside highly regarded surgeons, Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) and multidisciplinary teams, you will help drive best-practice care, support staff development and contribute to service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will:

• Deliver safe, high-quality and evidence-based patient-centred care.
• Provide advanced clinical leadership and act as a role model for nursing practice.
• Support and mentor nursing staff, fostering clinical excellence and professional development.
• Promote individualised patient care and enhance patient and family experiences.
• Collaborate with Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) and multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
• Identify opportunities for quality improvement and contribute to service development initiatives.
• Support clinical governance, accreditation and NSQHS compliance activities.
• Facilitate effective communication between patients, families and healthcare teams.
• Contribute to positive workforce culture, engagement and teamwork.
• Participate in and contribute to the Senior Nurses Forum, supporting shared decision-making, service improvement and professional nursing leadership across the department.
• Champion patient safety, excellence and continuous improvement.

About You

You are an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse who demonstrates clinical expertise, professionalism and a passion for supporting others to succeed.

You thrive in a fast-paced surgical environment, enjoy coaching and mentoring colleagues, and are committed to delivering exceptional patient-centred care.

Essential Criteria

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
• Minimum 5 years post-registration experience, including at least 2 years' experience in an acute surgical specialty area.
• Demonstrated advanced clinical skills within a surgical environment.
• Proven ability to lead, support and influence nursing practice.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Commitment to patient-centred care and service excellence.
• Sound knowledge of NSQHS Standards.
• Excellent clinical assessment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Intermediate computer skills.
• Flexibility to work a rotating roster.

Desirable Criteria

• Demonstrated nursing leadership, including the ability to positively influence clinical practice, support staff development and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
• Postgraduate qualification in a relevant surgical specialty or working towards completion.
• Experience supporting quality improvement, accreditation or education initiatives.
• Experience within a private hospital environment.
