The aim of the Graduate Nurse Program at Northern Beaches Hospital is to provide a year of consolidation of clinical skills in a supportive and caring environment.

Northern Beaches Hospital will be a fully licensed private hospital, providing care to public and private patients from an outstanding new facility with a large range of quality services provided by exceptional nurses, doctors, allied health and non-clinical staff. 

We offer two different streams of graduate nurse programs:

A general program, rotations offered include:


o   Critical Care Unit

o   Day of Surgery Suite

o   Emergency Department

o   Intensive Care

o   Medical Wards

o   Paediatrics

o   Recovery

o   Surgical Wards

Direct entry to operating theatre, rotations include: 


o   Scrub / scout

o   Anaesthetics



 At Northern Beaches Hospital we offer:

  •  A structured program with 2 x 6 month rotations
  • Opportunity to indicate clinical rotation preference
  • Full Time and Part Time positions

Graduate Program Includes

  • Comprehensive Orientation Program
  • Experienced preceptors for initial and ongoing support
  • Supernumery time
  • Support from highly skilled staff
  • Education days throughout the year
  • Flexible rostering
  • Purpose built onsite education centre with the latest technology for teaching, simulation and presentations
  • Opportunity for permanent employment on completion of the program.


Selection Criteria

  • Eligibility for registration as a nurse with the Nurses and Midwives board (AHPRA)
  • Completing your nursing course between July 2018 and February 2019
  • Ability to undertake Full Time or Part Time employment on a 7-day rotating roster
  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of, and ability to work within a team
  • Overseas students must have documented proof of English Language skills to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Band 7 or evidence of a booking for an IELTS test at the time of interview (OET test will also be accepted)

  • Include two relevant (surgical, medical or peri-operative) university clinical appraisals completed by you and your facilitator at clinical placements

  • Interviews – late August/early September
  • Program commences – late February 2019
