About the role:
The Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Specialist has overall responsibility for the development of the Site HSW Improvement Plan the Brisbane Private and Sunnybank Private Hospitals. The role partners with and supports the Hospital Executive Team, Managers, Supervisors and Health and Safety Committees (HSC) to deliver the Site Improvement Plan. They provide management system technical advice and support to drive compliance with the HSW Strategy. HSW Management System, Regulatory frameworks and accreditation requirements. The site safety and wellbeing specialist is supported by a Health Safety and Wellbeing Advisor.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide support to the site HSW specialist, Managers and teams in the achievement of HSW objectives and goals.
- Build capability and enhance accountability for safety amongst managers, supervisors, HSC members through coaching and influencing to implement and embed Healthscope’s HSW Management System and programs.
- Support safe systems of work, contribute to quality incident investigations and coaching and education of staff
- Contribute to risk management activities including facilitating risk and workplace assessments, contributing to the development of SOPs, conducting control verification, participating in assurance activities, and participating in LTI investigations
- Participate and contribute to State and National delivery of strategic programs and initiatives, forums and advisory committees to drive HSW improvements.
- Support the site HSW specialist in the embedding of national and site Safety and Wellbeing programs.
- Practices, role models, champions and holds people to account to live the Healthscope Safe Values to create a positive experience for colleagues, partners and patients.
- Partners with managers and leaders to embed a Safety and Wellbeing system and control framework that puts our people first.

Experience for Success
- Minimum 12 months experience working in Work Health and Safety
Qualifications for Success
Mandatory:
- Certificate IV in Work, Health and Safety or higher or working towards this qualification
- Vehicle drivers licence appropriate to the State or Territory
- COVID-19 vaccination (as per state policy requirements)
Desirable:
- Worked in Healthcare
- Incident and Investigation training, e.g. ICAM or similar
- Membership or affiliation with a safety professional association
