John Fawkner Private Hospital are seeking an experienced Anaesthetic / PACU Registered Nurse to join our Perioperative Services team. This is an opportunity for a nurse who enjoys working in a dynamic environment and is passionate about ensuring patients receive exceptional care before, during and immediately after surgery.

As an Anaesthetic / PACU Nurse, you play a critical role in supporting patients through some of their most vulnerable moments, working closely with anaesthetists, surgeons and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, high-quality care. We believe that Perioperative nurses are essential in advocating for patients throughout the surgical journey and ensuring positive patient experiences and outcomes.

About the Role

Working across our operating theatres and recovery areas, your focus will include:

Anaesthetic Nursing

  • Assist anaesthetists during induction, maintenance and emergence from anaesthesia.
  • Prepare and maintain anaesthetic equipment, medications and monitoring devices.
  • Monitor patients and respond promptly to changes in clinical condition.
  • Support safe and efficient theatre workflows.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and uphold patient safety standards.

PACU Nursing

  • Provide post-anaesthetic care and recovery monitoring.
  • Assess and manage pain, airway, respiratory and cardiovascular status.
  • Recognise and escalate clinical deterioration when required.
  • Deliver patient-centred care that promotes comfort, dignity and safety.
  • Coordinate smooth transfers to inpatient wards, day surgery or other clinical areas.

About You

You are a calm, adaptable and clinically confident nurse who thrives in a collaborative environment.

You will bring:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
  • Experience in Anaesthetics/PACU or Scrub Scout or broader Perioperative Services. Anaesthetics experienced is required.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities.
  • A commitment to evidence-based practice and patient-centred care.
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Essential Requirements

  • Australian work rights
  • Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration.
  • Demonstrated perioperative anaesthetic nursing experience. Could be combined with PACU or Scrub Scout .
  • Knowledge of patient monitoring and post-operative care principles.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Understanding of patient safety, infection prevention and quality standards.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in Perioperative Nursing, Anaesthetics or Critical Care.
  • Experience caring for patients across a broad range of surgical specialties.
  • Advanced Life Support certification.
  • Familiarity with ACORN Standards and contemporary perioperative practice
