    Pre-Admission Clinic Nurse (RN) – Northern Beaches Hospital
    Permanent Part-Time | Monday – Thursday | 07:30 – 15:36 (potential to extend)

    The Pre-Admission Clinic (PAC) at Northern Beaches Hospital is seeking a highly self-motivated Registered Nurse to join the team. This role involves working closely with the Anaesthetic team, Day Surgery NUM, and the Hospital’s Clinical Coordinator as the first point of contact for patients preparing for surgery.

    The clinic runs Monday to Thursday, seeing up to nine patients a day, with a combination of in-person and telephone consultations. Key responsibilities include reviewing patient results, verifying clinical data, liaising with specialists, and communicating relevant information to stakeholders. Patients from a range of specialties, ranging from Orthopaedics to Obstetrics, are referred to the clinic by surgeons.

    The ideal candidate will be organised, confident in clinical decision-making, and keen to contribute to the quality improvement project currently underway in Pre-Admission Clinic.  If you're passionate about patient-centred care and working in a supportive, fast-paced environment, we’d love to hear from you.  

    Key Responsibilities

    • Ensure patients are fully informed of their surgery and have completed an informed consent form, and health history.
    • Ensure patients are fully prepared for surgery and that it is safe to proceed with the surgery they require.
    • Conduct and complete face to face Patient Health Assessments including ECG’s and patient physical assessment.
    • Document, report and action clinical findings in EMR and Webpas.
    • Pre-Operative education for patients attending surgery ensuring they have also made the necessary preparations for post operative care.
    • Assist in coordinating the follow up of test results for surgery as required.
    • Substantiate data relevant to the patient's readiness for surgery, communicate pertinent information to the relevant stakeholders.  

    Knowledge, skills and attributes

    Pre-admission nurses require current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

    • Possess good communication skills and have the ability to liaise with bookings and the surgeons rooms
    • Display thorough assessment and patient education skills
    • Prove to have critical thinking ability
    • Need to be able to identify potential problems and communicate these to the perioperative team to ensure safe, positive patient outcomes
    • Display a high level of planning and organisational skills
    • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team
    • Have a proven professional phone manner
