Sunnybank Private Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse / Enrolled Nurse - Anaesthetics
to join our Perioperative Services – Anaesthetics Department. You will play a key role within a supportive team in ensuring high levels of patient care is provided.
About the role:
As the Registered Nurse / Enrolled Nurse - Anaesthetics Role, your responsibilities will include:
· Providing safe, evidence-based nursing care to patients undergoing procedures requiring anaesthesia.
· Working collaboratively with anaesthetists, surgeons, perioperative nurses, and multidisciplinary team members
· Ensure the efficient preparation, management, and recovery support of patients throughout the perioperative journey.
· Accountable for maintaining high standards of patient care, promoting patient safety, and contributing to the effective operation of the perioperative environment.

With 120 inpatient Surgical and Medical beds, a rehabilitation gym, 7 operating theatres, 2 procedure rooms, a day oncology unit and an ICU, Sunnybank Private Hospital has been providing care to our local community for over 40 years and continually embraces the highest quality of holistic patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Practice
· Assess, prepare, and support patients undergoing anaesthesia.
· Assist anaesthetists during induction, maintenance, and emergence from anaesthesia.
· Prepare and check anaesthetic equipment, medications, and consumables prior to procedures.
· Ensure anaesthetic machines and monitoring equipment are operational and compliant with safety standards
· Monitor patients throughout the anaesthetic phase and promptly communicate changes in patient condition
· Assist with airway management and emergency situations as required
· Participate in emergency response procedures, including cardiac arrest and malignant hyperthermia management.
· Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with organisational policies and regulatory requirements
· Practice in accordance with current ANZCA professional standards, guidelines and recommendations, ensuring the safe delivery of anaesthetic care and the maintenance of a high-quality perioperative environment.
Patient Safety and Quality
· Promote a culture of patient safety and continuous quality improvement
· Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement activities, and accreditation requirements
· Identify, report, and manage clinical risks, incidents, and near misses
· Ensure compliance with medication safety standards and controlled drug management processes
Communication and Teamwork
· Develop effective working relationships with anaesthetists, surgeons, nursing staff, and support services
· Provide clear and professional communication with patients and their families
· Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and handovers
· Support and mentor new staff, graduates, and students as required
Professional Development
· Maintain current nursing registration and professional competency
· Participate in mandatory education and ongoing professional development activities
· Maintain knowledge of contemporary anaesthetic nursing practices and relevant legislation
· Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures
Key Selection Criteria:
Essential
· Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA)
· Demonstrated experience in anaesthetic nursing within a perioperative environment
· Sound knowledge of anaesthetic equipment, medications, and monitoring requirements
· Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
· Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
· Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
· Commitment to patient-centred care and continuous quality improvement
Desirable
· Postgraduate qualification in Perioperative Nursing or working towards completion
· Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification
· Experience in a private hospital setting
· Knowledge of National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards

If you are successful, you will receive a salary based on your years of relevant nursing experience against the current nursing Enterprise Agreement the "Healthscope - QLDEN/RN - Nurses and Midwives Agreement –starting from $36.74 - $66.23 per hour.
